In opening a iVi/aJar on H.-half of the funds of the I'urban Congrega-, tiona!. the ({ovt-nior of Ntital (Sir Henry McCallum) -delivered a peculiarly candid speech- lie declared that Natal was credit-niad, and people were much too -apt to run into extravagance on 'cn-dit. The Church authorities acted similarly, by plunging into debt, and then askiivg the congregation to h« i lp them out of thv mire. He had previously de clined to take part in similar functions. which were in the nature of relief funds, ami would have hi'sitated before accepting their invitation that day had he known that the bazaar was to remove an incuUis of dc^jt.
