TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Boai'd met on Monday, Present, : Messrs G, Tisch (Chairman), R. Cock, J. Andrews, J. Burgess, D. H. McDonald, li. M. Murley, and JBlown. —Subsidy.— . The Treasury notified payment of I £3ll Ss 7d subsidy. —Donation.— Mr P. Bellringer, Captain of the New Plymouth Fire Brigade, in acknowledging a cheque lor £5 5s 10l his report of fire appliances at tile Hospital and Old People's Home, replied that he was only too pleased to place his services at the Board's disposal, and relumed the cheque as a donation. The Secretary was instructed to thank Mr Bellringer tor his action. —Hawera Board.— TheHawcra Hospital Board wrote, in reply to the Taranaki Board's claim for maintenance, that the matter had been referred to a special committee to report at next meeting. —lncrease of Salaries.— The medical superintendent (Dr. Leatham) and members o! the start wrote thanking the Board for the recent increase in the scale ol salaries. —Resignation of Head Nurse.— Nurse A. Lawson, in giving' one month's notice of resignation as head nurse at the hosprtal, stated that her reason for so doing was that she had not'been treated with the courtesy her position warranted, and that she would not tolerate being dictated to as to how her time should be spent out ol hospital. The resignation was accepted, and on the recommendation of the house committee Nurse O'Brien was appointed first nurse, and Nurse McCallum stall nurse, a step in rank all round.
The Chairman and members expressed complete satisfaction with the training received at the hospital. Report had always borne out the view that the nurses trained at the New Plymouth Hospital were highly efficient in every rcspett. —The Valuation Question.— The Egmont County Council, after considering correspondence from the Hoard, forwarded the following resolution I "That, the letters he acknowledged, and as all other districts are charged on the valuations supplle'd toy the Valuer-General, this Council will pay contribution as levied." —Probationer.— For the vacant probationd'ship it was reported that one applicant had left after three days' work. Miss A. Purcell, who is relieving at the Palmers ton North Hospital, was appointed to take up the position by, Oct. 1. The names of Miss Bessie Cram, of Auckland, and Miss Ivy E. Fooie, of New Plymouth, will he place;! on the list on the receipt of the necessary forms. Miss Kdith Edward, of Brentwood, withdrew hor previous application with the object of applying at Nelson. —Tenders for Supplies.— Mr G. 6. Boulton, the tenderer for provisions, waited on the Board and represented that, lie was losing money on the contract, through the exceptional rise in the price of potatoes and other commodities.
The Board agreed, while not establishing a precedent, to release Mr Boulton from his contract at the end of September, and to call for supplies from Oct. Ito March 31 next. The house committee was empowered to act in the matter. —lnsurances. The secretary, by rcquost, placed on the table a detailed list of insurances on the whole of the Board's proper-t ty, the policies being distributed in different offices.
