PERSONAL NOTES.
The oldest man in Tauranga, Mr John Brownlie, celebrated his ninetieth birthday on September 8. The Hay of Plenty Times says he was one of the oldest identities and took; part in the lighting at To Renga and Whakamaramnra. Mr Brownlio is still in possession of all his mental and physical faculties, and can still take an interest in newspapers, and reads them without glasses, (which is more than many younger men can do), and as an occasional relaxation may be seen sawing or cutting up firewood. A well-known Coromandel resident, Mrs Fernandez, died in Auckland on Friday night. She was a colonist of many years standing, and had resided in Coromamlel for a quarter of a century. She was the widow c:f the late Mr Salomon John Fernandez, one of t'hu pioneer storekeepers of tho Hauraki goldfields. Deceased was a native of London, and a woman of benevolent character. She was widely Known for acts cf charity. Mr Major, M.il.K., for Ifawcra, is a nephew of deceased, and she had relatives in Victoria.—N.Z Herald.
