Qnarterly Meeting, The quarterly general meeting of the laranaki Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday evening. —Correspondence.— The following correspondence was read

the Promior and thqMmlstcr of Public Works relative {o tho l-e----solution of the Chambor with regard to affording railway facilities for Opunake, the latter stating that a survey was now being made. From the Minister of Public Works stating that the Chamber's resolution in favour .of opening up tho Carrington Road would 'be considered when the Estimates 'were brought down.

From the Auckland KailwcJl League, relative to railway matters, pointing out tkal the expenditure on railways in the South Island was far greater than in the North. . —The Council's Work.— The Chairman said that it had been stated that too much of tho business of the Chamber was done in camera by tho Council, and he del tailed the various matters that had been dealt with by the Council sinct the last general meeting. (These have been already reported in these columns.) Ho considered that vcrj great credit was due to the members of the Councit for the gocd work done, frequently at considerable inconvenience to some of them. (Applause.) —Mokau Harbour.—

In reply to Mr Kerr, the secretary stated that no reply had been received from tho Government to thi Chamber's communication relativcto the Mokau River, since March last, when the Minister stated: he would be passing through the district and would look into the matter, but he gave no hope of the Government doing much at the mouth of the river. After transacting other business, tho meeting adjourned.
