THE ENGINEER'S REPORT. '^ r °r gi V, ' f}n ff' noer . reporting to the Works Committee on Thursday, stated -thai the contractors for the intake havd started to make good the damage Co the intake and other work in connection with their maintenance liability. The power house contract is progressing satisfactorily. The race, with tho contingent work, is nearing completion ; the concrete floor and walls of tho building are now being put in ; ami ™° ,! wi ' d P 3 have ~eun completed. e .brush Company: have pushed along with the erection of the poles for the electric light. When Devon btreet has been completed, wiring will be commenced. Nearly the whole of tho material! for' the installation is now to hand, The work Oi cutting -down 1 the bank adjacent r?-M Ir . Bullot ' s property on Stamlish Hill is completed, and the road gang is now at work on the Frankley Road, .widening it out and forming the footpath. The West End sewers should be connected with the septic tank -during the coining week. Forming is noui being carried on in Brougham an-d Gill Streets prior to metalling. Queen Street has been filled up to the present level of the street and the footpath formed ; the side channels will be left over until' the embankment has settled down. It would entail too much labour to recover the stone from the old culvert, and he had therefore desisted. The contractor for the electric light transmission station has started excavating on the site, -the material being -deposited at the corner of Liardet anil Gilbert Streets. As the ston-e in the protection wall in frontof the salt water baths -has now settled, it is now 'absolutely necessary to complete the work, and the engineer recommended it being done by contract. The Harbour Board should be approached for permission to get some of tho heavy stone froni about low water mark.
