Association Game
Ancllanders defeat TarantM
The meeting of the Auckland Corinthians and the Taranaki "Rep" Association teams was witnessed by a fair crowd at the Recreation Ground on Thursday afternoon. In view of the progress made in this game of late in Taranaki the home team was expected to make things close, ibut the Northerners proved themselves fully equal to the occasion, winning by 2 goals to nil. The teams were constituted Corinthians Turley (goal) ; Harding (captain), Taklc (full-back) ; Bond, Skipper, Prime (half-back) ; Oilier, Harvey, Foreshore, and L. and J. Clarke (forwards). TaranakiGoal, Frost (West End) ; full-back, S. Clarke, captain (East), Bullock (East) ; half-back, Lister (West), Read (West), Hartley (East) ; forwards, Prosser, Wilson, Schofield (Waitara), A. Ambury (West), and Acklam. The game was a hard and fast one throughout, but the local men failed to show to as great advantage as expected, probably owing to lack of practice together. The visitors, who; number several of Auckland's "rep"' j men in their ranks, and have splen- ! did combination, gave a clean scientific exposition of the game. Taranaki pressed tlte Aucklanders very closely at time, but their efforts were not as effective as they should have been had a little more judgment l been displayed at the critical moment. The attacking was fairly even for twothirds of the game, but the local men were out of luck in their attempts at. goal. The Auckland forwards worKed together splendidly, whereas the home forwards relied too much upon their own prowess. The visitors' goal in the first spell was scored toy Oilier and the second goal by Harding, The Northerners iully their win, and their visij should prove of great' assistance in improving the standard of play here. The Corinthians' forward work was '® at " re ° f aamq, the form shown by Foreshore, Clark and Oilier being admirable.'
