PERSONAL NOTES.
Mr C. Ci. Aiackay, son of Mr J. Mackay, Midhirst, who is now a solicitor in Waiiganui, has been appointed a Commissioner for the High Court of Australia. This is the first appointment of the .kind in New Z'ealand.
A presentation of a gold sovereign pursu and other articles was made to Dr. Mason, Chief Public Health Officer, by the stall of ihc Public Health Department, jm the eve of his departure for Europe. Dr. Valintine, Assistant thief Health Officer, who made the presentation, gave expression to the esteem in which Dr. Mason is held by the officers of the department throughout New Zealand.
Mr A. 11. Harding, of the Malioe tjchool l , has been appointed lo the I'ost of first assistant at the Central school, and will commence his duties on Oct. -i. Mr R. A. «. Brown, oi I'okoii (lnvercargili) will take up a similar post at the Stratford school.
Mr G. H. White, of New Plymouth, has been appointed shorthand writer for the North Island Band Contest ty be hoid at Hawera.
Mr A. E. Tuke, of the local branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has been promoted to the position of chief clerk of the Wanganui branch. His position here will be filled *i,jy Mr R. Baker.
MrD.T. Mcintosh, District Railway tnginecr, who has been -transferred to Auckland, was last week presented by the railway employees with a writing desk and chair and an easy, chair. There were 150 railway men present. On Saturday, businesspeople of Wanganui presented Mr Mcintosh with a silver cigarette outfit 8 matC ' VbOX and s ™ k «' *
