A Question of Resignation.
Some Pointed Remarks. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Sept. b. At a meeting of the Hoard of Education to-day, a letter was read from Mr R. Uobbs, resigning his seat. Mr Hobbs, in his letter, stated that the resignation would not come as a surprise to members of the Hoard, n/s they knew that all the efforts of Mount Hoskill School Cornmil tee to have certain specific charges, made by the committee and supported bjv .sworn affidavits, in-, vestigated were always blocked, and the ends of justice, both to the teacher and the committee, and to teachers as a body, were thereby frustrated.
The Chairman (Mr S. Luke) moved that the resignation be accepted with regret. Mr Harris opposed the use of the words "with regret." He felt that Mr Hobbs was rendering the Board a service by resigning. Mr Hobbs forgot that he alone was responsible for all the trouble about Mount Roskill School, and it would be a scandal if the Board "regretted" Ml Hobbs' departure. Other members expressed regret that Mr Hobbs had mentioned the Mount Roskill case in connection wit.i his resignation, but eventually the Chairman's motion was passed, Messrs,. Harris and McKensnc voting against it. Mr Holfts has left Auckland on a trip to the. South Sea Islands, and) was not present at the meeting.
