Conference of Employers.
Attttide on Ltrjoir Qoestioos. WELLINGTON, Sept. C. (Pet FrtH Aiaxtatlon.) The annual Conference of the New Zfealaad Employer*' Federation opened to-day. The following resolu-J tions were adopted :—"That in the opinion ol this Federation, the old principle of the indenture of apprenticeship is now obsolete, and should be abolished; we strongly recommend the certificates system, which has recently been adopted by the Arbitration Court fa cases where limitation or regulation of the employment of young persons is insisted uDon ;"• ''this Federation strongly affirms the principle of payment for services rendered ; it does not object to the, payment of overtime, but where overtime prevails wages should be determineVl by the number of hours actually worked ;" "that subject to the provisions of the Factories Act We insist that it is unfair that employers should have to pay for holidays when no value is rendered ;"• "that the policy of preference to Unionists being contrary to individual rights of the citizen. and having been declared to Ik- ultra vires by the highest authority in the Commonwealth, this Federation agrees to contest this demand on every possible occasion :" 'that the employment of young people in various trades or occupations calling for such employment should not in any way .bje restricted, unless it can bo shown to the satisfaction of the Arbitration Court that such employment would be detrimental ,to the individual so employed."
