CH4USTOHURCH, Sept. 6. • At a meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, the Mayor of LytteM ton (Mr Webb) drew attention to the fact that the Moana on Aug. 81 had "smelt the mud" at the entrance to the moles, and the cap, tain had been obliged to cast an- | chor to get the ship round. They, would get a large steamer stuck on one of these mud banks some day, and then they would recognise the impprtance of increasing tho size of their turning basin. Ho moved that a report be asked for as to the Moana an*? choring in the centre of the moles. * The motion having been seconded, Mr Kayo said the captain of the Moana had' come in across what were known as the flats and had Jfot into shallow water, ten minutes'delay being caused. There was no blame to the Harbour Board. All, other ocean liners came in easily, und no complaints were made. The Chairman said that in tha case of the Moana there had been no official complaint from the Union Steam Ship Company. Mr Webb then withdrew! his mo* tion.
