New Zealand Horses in Sydney. Betting on the Epsom Handicap. SYDNEY, Sept. 4. Machine Gun has been allotted top weight, 12.2, in the Kensington Handicap. Haydn ami Up-to-Datc are ton weights, 12.4, in the First Steeplechase, with Dingo 10.7, Sultana 10.3. The only material change in the betting for the Epsom Handicap is the hardening of Machine Gun, Famous and Waroo to 100 to 8. SYDEEY, Sept. 5. Jsolt finished six furlongs in lmin 22sec. Gladsome, without being extended, I strode over half a mile in 50Jsec. Noctuiform took 51scc and Sungod, 52sec over 'the same distance. After acceptance, money was available at 5 to 1, but not a large amount. Quotations left off very firm at 4 to 1. i*or the double the two Maniapo tos were in considerable demand. P.K., as the result of backing to the tune of several thousands by Mr Crick, advanced to 10 to 1. Machine Gun was Knocked back to 100 to 6. On August 19, at t Handwick, in the Rawson Stakes, nine furlongs, Marvel Lock established a new record lor that distance, namely, lmin 51>i sees. The previous record, held bv Fitzgrafton, was lmin 54Jsec. Fitzgrafton was a contestant in this race, finishing third. Marvel Loch was ridden by the New Zealand jockey, L. H. Hewitt.
The two-year-old colt in the Porirua stable Phoebus (Apollo—Chrysolite) has been named Delos.
After the first acceptance for the New Zealand Cup on Friday the list of those engaged shews a considerable reduction. Mr Henry's assessment of those weighted Bst and upwards has given satisfaction, seven out of eleven having continued thei: engagements. The defection of Sir Tristam was a surprise. This colt had some fair performances to his credit last season, and some keen judges expressed the opinion that he was a second Renown. The |ion. J. 1).
