(Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 2. Twenty-five of the competitors in th* Timaru to Christchurch Dunlop road race finished-, the first man, P. :VI. O'Connor (Cricklewood), arriving at 4.47 and the last at 6.30 p.m. Others struggled in' at intervals afterwards, The loads in many placis were soft and muddy, rain falling during the greater part of the distance. J. Arnst, scratch man, arrived at ;i(.30. He was delayed on account ofnis .small tyres sinking into the soft ro_ds. Prize-winners were P, M. O'Connor (Cr.ciilt-wood), 45 minutes'" vtart, rid:i.g time fihr 51|miii flsec, 1 ; A. Huiui (Sproydon), 35min, time iiir 12inin '.sec, 2 ; J. Hell (Fairlie), ■ 2min, time 7hr 22min Iscc, 3 ; U. •mitli (Riccarton), ui'min, time shr '""'in 13sec, 4 ; W. A. Bennet (Highbail 1 , ) f 45mi-n, time 7'hr S'-min 25sec, 5 ; N. Longford (Temuka), 12min, time 7hr 3-hiiiti -13 sec, 6 ; special prize, H. Henderson (Palmerston North), smin, time ,7hr 7min 51sec. With O'Connor, Henderson, Hunn, o'Ncilson (Dannevirkc), 23min, time 7 lir 17min Bscc ; Bell and H, Lloyd (Wanganui), 23min, time 7hr 24min -.sscc, who put up the six fastest times, will represent New Zealand in Ihe Goulbum-Sydncy and Warrnam-bool-Melbourne races. The competitors were entertained in the evening ■it a monster smoke concert in Canterbury Hall. The Mayor of Christchurch presided, and Sir J. 6. Ward 1 and other -distinguished visitors were I present.
