MR NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY AUCTION REPORT. At the Haymarkct on Saturday small stole pigs made 13s to 15s 6d, weaners 2s 6d to Bs, mare £4 ss. At the Mart a fine lot of poultry came forward and made good prices. Hens sold at 2s Id to 5s 6d, pullets Is 2d to 2s, cockerels Is Sd to 5s 6d, ducks Is lid to 2s. A quantity ol furniture and sundries were disposed of, prices being in favour of ibuyers. On Wednesday afternoon, at "Strandon," I held a clearing sale- of furniture on account of Mr Wastney, of the National Bank. The superior quality of the furniture, augmented by an exceedingly large attendance, naturally resulted in a highly satisfactory sale. On Monday at Carrington Road I held a clearing sale on account of Mr E. Wells. There was a good attendance, and satisfactory prices were realised for all lines. The cows were a nice lot, but were rather backward, which militated against a high average. All forward cows were well competed for, making from £6 15s to £7i 10s, late calvcrs made £4 to £6 10s, aged and store cows made*£2 to £3 10s, heifers in calf £3 6s to £4 5s yearlings 30s, mixed sheep, mostly ewe hoggets with lambs, 19s 7d. I also sold at the same time Messrs Chas. and 2. W. Wells' dairy cows. The former were in nice condition and mostly early calvers. Springers made £6 15s to £9 ss, backward cows £3 10s to £5 ss. Mr Z. W. Wells' cows were mostly late calvers, and consequently were not so saleable. Springers made £5 15s to 15s, late calvers £3 10s to £4 15s. At Waiwakaiho on Tuesday there was a small yarding and attendance. Bidding was quiet for nearly all classes, and prices showed little alteration.

The same day at Stralford I held a dealing sale 011 account of Mr (1. Wasley. Springers made £7 to £8 ss, late Calvers £2 15s to £6, springing heifers £5, yearlings 30s. Sun-i dries made faif prices. At Oakura on Wednesday there was a large attendance at Mr John I.ooney's clearing sale, and everything sold well. The cows were a really nice lot, all young ami mostly early calvers, and were keenly competed for, the whole herd averaging £6l 9s. Springers made £7 to £8 15s, October and November calvers £4 ,7s to £C 10s, heifers in calf and springing £3 to £4 10s, yearlings 255, 18moiiths mixed 30s, light draught mare £27, harness horses £ls 15s to £2O 10s, hacks £8 10s to £lO ss, Shetland ponies £5 15s to £B. The draught stallion General Grant was secured by Mr Galloway for £IOO, mixed sheep 15s 3d, breeding sows £1 to £2 Us, store pigs 13s. Furniture, sundries and implements iradc satisfactory prices. The same day at Toko Mr W. Peters' sale was well attended and everything sold at good prices. The cows were a good lot and were well competed for. Springers made £G 10s to £8 ss, October and November calvers to £0 ss, breeding sows £0 to m W, sow ami litter £i. On Thursday at Warea I held a successful clearing sale on account of Mr J. J. Elwin, the attendance being large, and everything was sold at satisfactory prices. There was a large entry of cattle m our Inglewood yards on- Wcdntsday last, and some good spimgers were offered, which showed a slight improvement on last. sale. Tliore was improved demand for fat pigs, especially foaconers. Fat sheep were not firm. In consequence of the mixed quality of the yarding store cattle met better sale, but dairy cows were difficult to dispose of. Store sheep.— I The yarding was composed chiefly, of hoggets, for which, though they sold well', the demand was hardly as keen as of late. Fat sheep.—The *ntry was fairly large, consisting principally ol crossbred and merino wethers. Of the iormer a considerable proportion was unfinished. The market penned very slack, but when graziers began to purchase the unfinished wethers, prices became firmer. All really prime lots sold well up to late rates, but the tone of the market generally was irregular and slightly easier. Only a few lots of hoggets were offered and they were sold along with the fat sheep. Fat cattle.—The supply consisted of 197 head, which was more than was required. A few pens of prime steers sold well, but a large proportion of the entry was unfinished, and met) with dragging sale, especially cows and heifers. Prices all round were slightly easier. Steers sold at £6 15s to £l2 15s, heifsrs £5 7s 6d to £lO ,7s 6d, cows £4 17s 6d to £8 5s (equal to 21s ;6d to 23s 6tl), other descriptions 19s to 21s per 1001b. A large yarding of veal calves sold at 7s 6d to £3.

Store dairy cattle.—'There were a few fair lines in the store cattle pens, and for larger sorts there was better demand, a West Coast buyer being in the market. Fifteen and eighteen mouths sold at 30s 9d to 42s two-year steers £3 to £3 9s, two year heifers £2 18s 6d, three-year steers £3 to £4 Is, three-year heifers £4 Is (passed), dry cows 28s to £3 15s.

A large entry of dairy cows, mostly medium sorts, met exceptionally dull sale. The best price at auction was £|7,

Pigs.—A fairly large yarding and an improced demand for baconers owing to the operations of an outside buyer. Porkers sold .better and these was a fair demand for largo stores. Baconers made 45s to sis, equal to 3£d to 3Jd per lb ; porkers 26s to 345, equal to'.4Jd to 4ijd per 11) ; large stores ISs to 22s ; medium 12s frd to 17s ; weaners 5s 3d to 8s 3d. Horses.—On Friday at the Durham Yards horses were jbrought forward |in full numbers, the demand being fjofod throughout. We qjuotc '—Heavy draughts from £2B to £lO 10s ; medium do., £lB 15s to £35; light harness £7 15s to £lB 5s ; hacks £5 5s to £22 ; Weeds £2 10s to £B. A tax-cart brought £8 10s; spring cart £lO 10s. The draught stallion Captain Wright realised £l2O. At Taukau on Wednesday there was a small muster of stock. Late prices ruled.

At the special sale of dairy cows, heifers, and bulls, held at Papakura on Wednesday, there was a large muster, 520 head being yarded. Competition was keen, satisfactory' prices being realised. Cows, in milK. sold from £4 10s to £9 9s ; springing do. £4 to £9 10s ; heifers, £4 5s to £8; bulls, £3 10s to £8 15s.

Cattle.—At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy co'tre and stores 'sns yarded in usual numbers. Prices for cows at their profit ranged from £-1 10s lo £8 If.s ; dry do., £1 15s to £3 10s ; calves £1 's to £2 3s. Fat cattle were yarded in more Ulan average mmi'utrs, and met a ready sale at ];i;;t week's pricts,-oxen selling at 24s per lllUlb, cows 19s lo .ili -. Steers sold froni £5 15s to £lO 17:-; 6;1 ; cows, £4 10s to £7 10s. Sheep were yarded at Newmarket Yards on Tuesday in scarcely average numbers. Competition was keen. Wethers sold from 16s 9d to £ll3s; ewes 15s 9d to £1 0s 9d ; hoggets 10s 6d to 15s.

Pigs, scarce, sold at late rates, | We submitted an extra large catalogue of hides, skins, etc., on Tuesday, all lines being sold under keen competition at late rates.

Hides.—Market firm. We quote Prime ox 7tjd to 8d ; extra stout do. i ! )Jd to 7jd ; stout do., 6d to fold ; medium do., -s id to sjd ; light do., 4sd to 5J ; light scored do., 4Jd to 4jjd ; cows, bulk, IJd, good 4sd to 4fd ; kips 4Jd to 4jd ; calfskins sid to Cd, cut ljd to ljd ; stags 23d to 3§d.

Sheepskins.—Market easier. Best butchers' skins, picked, 6S 6d to Is 7d (good lines average 5s :6d to (is lOd); medium skins, 4s to 5s ftl • small and damaged, Is 9d to 4s 3d. ' Ta'low.—Market firm. Best mixed, up to 21s 6d -j good 19s to 20s ,6d • seconds, 10s to 18s 3d ; rough fat lid to lid. ' Bones, £5, Cowtai's, Is 6d dozen. Horsehair, Is 2d to Is M per ft Maize.—Although supplies have been considerably heavier than for some time, the demand is unsatisfied. The market has advanced a penny, and ail prime lines are selling freely at 3s 2d on wharf in wholesale lines. Oats.—Local stocks have worked down considerably, and there was a bet ter demand for ex ship than there has been for some considerable time. Present rates arc 2s Ud c.i.f. for B grade.

Chaff.—ln good demand from £1 las lo ±ls c.i.f.
