Vest's Pictures and the Brescians,

The fifth night's performance by West's Company was : witnessed by practically a full house. It is almost a new experience in New Plymouth to record such good houses for a week on end, but the liberal patronage afforded the combination by the public of both the town and district is certainly well deserved. The new set of pictures shown last evening were a splendid assortment calculated to meet all tastes, and indicated the extent of Mr West's fine repertoire. Portion of tho views taken in New Plymouth on Wednesday Inst were thrown on tho screen, and proved very realistic. A busy scene in Devon Street at midday was given with life-like clearness, pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles making an animated picture. Many of those figuring in the scene were easily recognisable, their names being acclaimed by members of the audience. Thej operations showing the removal of earth by bullock waggons, at Mount Eliot, opposite the station, were also depicted, but the pictures were not quite so clear as the others'. Wellington street, scenes were exhibited, also views of groups of members in' the Parliament House grounds.

The talented Brescians were rereceived with, pleasing cordiality, and the audience insisted on numerous encore numbers. Miss Domenica Martinengo sang Tosti's "Goodbye" with true artistic feeling, and in response gave "Sunshine and Rain." The violin playing of Miss Adeline. Martinengo was greeted with enthusiastic applause, and this young lady is most popular with tho audience. Mr Rudall Hayward, baritone, and Mr Fred Mills, in his laughable character songs, were very successful, The concerted pieces by the full company were delightfully rendered. The company will conclude their New Plymouth season this evening, when a bumper house may be anticipated. There will be an entire change of programme. For the convenience of country patrons who wish to catch the afternoon train the matinee arranged for this after noon will commence at 1.45 o'clock. The programme will 'be identical with that of the evening performance, which will commence at 7.H0, and concludo at 10, as the company leave by the steamer to-night for Auckland.

Mr West intends to take a trip to England and the Continent shortly, in 'order to get the very latest pictures, and in all probability will put in another week's season here about February next.
