Hockey.

Hawera Secure Championship.

A fine exhibition of hockey was witnessed at Hawcra on Thursday afternoon, when the New Plymouth "A" and Hawcra, winners lor the northern and southern divisions respectively, contested the championship of Taranaki. The visitors had the misfortune to have Catliro almost incapacitated early in the game, and, though he continued to play, he was, of course, not up to form. New Plymouth was the first to score, but the Hawcra forward division playing with rattling good combination, soon asserted their superiority, The first spell ended 2 to 1 in Hawera's favour. In the second half New Plymouth were kept mainly on the defensive. Victory finally rested with Haweia by 5 points to 1. Hallctt scored New Plymouth's solitary goal, and HaWei'a's goals were registered by Pratt (2), Welham (2), and Sergeant. The Rev. Mr Dewsbury, of Wanganui, gave satisfaction as a referee.
