The San Francisco Chronicle gives interesting details on modern whaling methods as exemplified in the scheme in operation at Scchart. on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where a whaling station costing Bn,OOOdol has just been established. One hundred men will be employed there in transporting the carcases of whales into various profitable products, cv«ry part of the leviathans being utilised. But the whales have first to -e caught, and this part of the business will be done by the moriern steam whaler Orion, recently arrived from Europe, which will cruise about 08 Sechart, where whales abound in great numbers. Instead of using small boats in the chase, the whales will be harpooned by modern devices irom the deck of the Orion and patent reels and special winches wilt help to take care of the whale afler he is conquered.
