TUESDAY, AUG. 29.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Local Bills occupied the attention of the Council during the afternoon.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Mr Seddon announced that when the House had disposed ot his motion to go into committee to consider the land proposals of which he had given notice, the Public Works Statement would be brought down. He proposed to make his motion the first order of the day for Thursday. On the motion to go' into commitHill, Mr Hcrdman moved an amendment affirming the necessity for setting up a Public Service Board for the j colony.

EVENING SITTING,

The House resumed at 7.30 The debate on Mr Herdinan's amendment was proceeded with throughout the evening. Sir Joseph Ward said that what was wanted was the classification and superannuation of the Civil Service, and the Government would give tho House an opportunity of going on with that scheme this session.
