Carrington Read Extension.

Supported by the Borough tail,

The Taranaki County Council submitted to Monday's meeting of New Plymouth' Borough Council a copy of a letter forwarded to the Minister for Public Works with reference (o the urgent heed for opening up Carrington 'Road towards* Opunake. The, let tcri sets out: (a) That the traffic on the County road between Kaliotu, and New Plymouth is exceptionally heavy, as there is no railway in this part of the district, and the Carrington Road, would take off much of the heavy traffic ; (h) The Crown Lands which I lie Carrington Road serves have recently been cut up for close settlement, and, unless something is done to provide an outlet for the settlers who have taken up land, it is feared the consequences will be most serious.

Mr Collis moved that the Council give its hearty co-operation to the movement. He considered it only right that the Council should assist in any steps for the opening up of the .district. The settlers who had take! up land (here were practically isolated in winter, as the track was impassable,

The motion was seconded by Cr. Wilson and carried unanimously.
