Tbe .New Plymouth Borough Council sat on Monday evening, Present: The Mayor (Mr It, Cock), and Crs. Collis, Wilson, Brooking, Tisch, Burgess, and Ewing. —Damaga by Heavy Cartage.— Iu reply to the Council's request to true County Council to reimburse the borough for any expense it is put tQ* in Consequence ol extraordinary cartage of metal over certain streets, thj County Council repliod that it would not entertain any such claim. Thl County Council pointed out thj heavy cartage and damage that was done to the county roads during the Conveyance of plant and material in connection with tho borough water scheme at Mangorei, and for which no claim was inu.de on the Borough Council.
it was decided to take no further action in the matter, matters being considered "about even" between tho two Councils. —Hospital Levies.— The clerk to the Taranaki County Council wrote that tho Chairman (Mr H. Okey) had proceeded to Wellington last month to attend a meeting of delegates to wait on the Premier with reference to a more equitable basis for hospital and, charitable aid levies. The meeting had been poorly attended, and owing to th-j delegates not being able to agree on certain proposals, it was deemed inadvisable to wait on the Premier. Much useful information had been obtained, and Mr Okey wished to express regret that the conference did not produce more direot good resutts. An account for £2 2s, being a half share of the delegate's expenses as agreed upon, was enclosed. The account was passed for payment. —Buildi|n(g By-laws.— Mr P. Lcaland, being desirous oi building a washhouse, bathroom, etc.. according to plan submitted, asked permission to dispense with the brick, wall on the boundary, on the score that it was unnecessary expense. it was decided that an inspection of the premises be made and the matter dccidxl at the next meeting of the Works Committee. —Wallace Place.— Mr Goodacrc waited on the Council on tchalf .of tho Elliot Road Board, to point out the necessity for putting Wallace ,PlaCo, the conn-:-ctini; link between Stan'jisll Hill and the itoad Board thoroughfare, in thor>ugh order. The street referred to was, he said, in a very bad state ol disrepair, as the bottom of the road lad fairly worn out. The present nuthod of patching was, he contended, more costly in tee long rur. than .Would be the provision of a road
Crs. Brooking and Tisch weie appointed a committee to confer with the Elliot and. Cr. Tisch, in moving the adoption of the report, said that the trees.' al-

That alternate schemes regarding the old reservoir site be submitted to the Council as under :—(») Elect a fence to enclose the bush (12 <tonin s ) and a fence alofig the foot of the hill (13 chains) at estimated cost of £4B, n':<i that after fencing the reserve, with th,e exception of the picnic paddock, it te put up for least for five yea lis; (b) that tenders be callol for a taise of the reserve for livo years, the tonant to erect fencing as above ; (p) that in bqth schemes a Condition be attached that the pulTc shall have a right-of-way to aod from the picnic ground.
