WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 38, 1905, LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Council met nt 2.30 p.m.. The Public Works Amendment BUI passed' through committee. The Marriages Validation BUI was read tile second time.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Mr Seddon gave >notico to move that the House resolve itself into committee of the whole to ideal witjh the report of the Land Commission, anJ to consider and determine the following matters connected therewith, so that a may bo introduced this session providing (1) That the present law permitting lease-in-perpetuity be repealed, and that in respect to leasing land in future there be substituted in respect to rura.l Umds a lease for not less than 50, or more than 99, years, with right ol renewal from time to time, on revaluation, for not less than -21 years, or more than 50 years, or failing which, tenants to have fujl compensation for improvements; (2) .that in respect to' lessees .who I now occupy under lease-ih-perpetuity, | and who'have acquired land under lbs Land Act,1892, whether they are to have the right to acquiro thj freehold of their sections at the present market value; (3) that in respect to lessees under the lease-in-perpetuity under the Land Act, 1892, whether they ore to have the right to acquire the freehold of their sections at the capital value! upon which they originally selected, |or may the lessee change his tenure to occupation with right of purchase; (4) Shall lessees under leaaft-in-perpetuity under the Land for Settlements Act .be allowed to acquire the freehold of their sections, and if so shall it bo at the present market value, .or .at the original value; (5) that should the right to acquire (the freehold be gran* ted under leafie-iji-perpotuityi,. : th# area held shall be as at present; and that no alteration of "boundaries he permitted unlessi for cutting, up into smaller areas, except by Act of Parliament; (6) ItJ should l:c . urir' lawful for any person t or company owning urban or suburban lands to the unimproved value of £50,000 to purchase ottd acquire the fee simple of any more lands.
