Communication With Opunake.
A meeting of tho Council of the i,■i'i ana Chamber of Commerce wjas held on Wednesday afternoon, when the following resolutions were carried "That In the opinion of tlnis Chamber it is very desirable that opunake should bo connected by rail with the Now Plymouth-Waoganui railway, that the particular route of connection should not be determined. or the Government committed to any particular route, until the Government has itself made tho requisite examination, and selected the best route, taking all advantages and disadvantages into consideration, and that copies of the above resolution be forwarded to the Bon. 'the 1 tenner, the Ministers for Railways ?nd 1 üblic Works, and to tho members representing Taranaki constituencies , and that this Chamber cordially supports! the representations mad? by the Taranaki County Conn-' oil to the Government on the subject oi the necDssiity for opening up the Oarringtcn Road, so as to complete communication between New Plymouth and OpunaJoe by that route, and that a copy of this resolution ibe forwarded to the Minister for I'ublit Works <i d the M.H.R.'s fo." the district, and to the Chairman of the County Council."
The Council abo-passed a "resolution to the effect "That the Chamber does not see its way at present to express any opinion as to whether it is desirable that steps should befallen to foster an export trade to Manchester or other West ,of England ports' direct."
