Amateur Boxing Association.

Amateur boxing is : likely to be soon ,in full swing in New Plymouth. A further meeting of those interestea was held at the Town Hall en Tuesday oVening, some thirty infcmU. ing members being present. Mr W. L,. Fitzherbert was voted to the chair. Ihe report of the sub-committeo indicated that 'considerable interest w a s being manifested in the venture, a large membership being anticipated. After aome diacnssSoß it was decided to form en amateur body to be known as the T a ranaki Amateur Box# Association, tihe subscription for both active .and) honorary members being fixed at sr. The election of the following office-bearers gives proof that the association will be conducted on sound lines President, Mr R. Cock (Mayor) ; vice-presidents, Mes Si's L.' W. Alexander. D. O'Brien and J. Avery; secretary, Mr A. K. Waters ; treasurer, Mr John- Howell; committee, Messrs T. Smith, C. Seabright, W. fMtzlierbert, A. H Standish, W. H. Beadle, H. Wilson, and I'. Webster.

The initial expenses were estimated at £25, in providing apparatus and rooms, and for the services of an instructor. The first competition will 1* held in October, under the rules of the New Zealand Amatrur Hoximg Association. There is any amount of good material locally, and the competition is likely to be Very interesting. The meeting decided on the appointment of Ml* Touhey, 'who is known as a clever oxponent of the art, as instructor for two or three evenings a week. The terms were left to the committee, who will also select suitable rooms: in) a central locality for tho association's headquarters.

Mr Stagpoole, who took an active interest i n promoting the association 1 will assist Mr iTouhey to get thi members/ into training. Every fao:lrty .will be afforded the uninitiateu to acquire knowledge of thisi manly and eminently serviceable art.. It, was| mentioned - that a similar Club at Hawera was in a flourishing condition.
