Jackson was chargwl with attempted assault at Newmarket on a girl sixteen years old, the jury disagreed, and a new trial was ordered, to take place next session. A charge of pretending to practice Witchcraft upon a Maori, who subsequently died, was preferred against an elderly woman named Mary Ann Hill, alias Madam Jordan. The widow af the deceased Maori stated that accused offered to cure her husband for £in. Accused saj .j he was possessed of evil spirits which she could drive away.
