CJ.C- GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. CREUSOT WINS THE HURDLES. ROMEO AND TRUMPERY KILLED. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 17. The weather for the second day of the Grand National Meeting was cold and cheerless, and the thick fog which hung about the course made it difficult at times to distinguish the horses when running along the back. The attendance, however, was good, J the Governor and party being again I present. As on the first day, there 'wcrcseveral falls, but the riders csI caped without injury, though In the I National Hurdles Romeo and Trump'ery received injuries which necessitated their being shot. Totalisator investments reached £14,426, as against, £11,633 on the second day last year. Results :
Hunt Club Cup.-Wi Waka 1, Playfair 2, Rowlock 3. Also started— Lucky Star, Agitator, Gnat, Snider, Grand Jury, Wild Bill, The Whip, Guirlcen and Barlock. Won by three lengths. Time, smin 13sec. NEW ZEALAND GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES, of 750sovs, about two miles. Creusot, 10.13 1 Waiwera, 9.13 2 Tupara, 9.12 8 Also started—The Mohican, Trumpery, Cavalry, Heroism, Durable, Catherine Gordon, Newtown, Levant, Rungarawa, Magnificent, Daredevil, Outer and Valirna. Rungarawa made the early running, with Romeo in close attendance. At the hurdles past the mile post Romeo fell and broke his leg, and Trumpery, falling over him, received injuries which necessitated her destruction also. Waiwera led round the top turn and into the straight, taut over the last hurdle was challenged by Creusot who won by a length and a half, Tupara two lengths away third, Daredevil fourth and Newtown fifth, Time, 3 min 49 2-ssec. Dividends, £3B 17s and £4 9s 6d.
