Fry joined Hayward, and the game livened up, the half-century being hoisted as the result of 55 minutes' play, and the century went up forty minutes later. Both batsmen were playing steady cricket, marked by sound bitting. Several changes in the bowling were made, >Uit without the desired effect.
Hayward was nearly caught when be was 35.
Fry's ball-century took him an hour and a quarter, and was compiled in bis test style. Barring two bad strokes, it was,without blemish.
Hayward, in pulling a ball from Hayward, trod on the wicket. The retiring batsman had played a splendid innings of two hours ten minutes during which he bit one fiver and eight tourers. Three for 142. Jackson appeared uncomfortable at first, and when eleven was beaten by a shooter from Hopkins, but the ball missed the wicket, and at 27 he gave a chance of stumping him off Arm-. atrong, Duß was then tried, and Fry hit three fours off his first over and 200 went np for three hours' play. Fry was hitting oil freely and got 13 oil one of Noble's overs. Fry played a fine innings. j
When stumps were drawn for the day England had seven wickets down tor SSI.
Fry was 3} hours at the wicket, and bit 23 fourers.
Jackson put up a skier deep behind the bowler, where Armstrong secured a good catch. He played a good innings of 2\ hours.
