A Spirit of Reasoaable Compromise. (Received Aug. 12, 0.40 a.m.) ' LONDON, Aug. 11. The Pacific Cable Conference report declares that members, remembering Uvat the cable was initiated largely to promoto Umpcrial unity, endeavoured to remove U U sources o£ friction between the partners therein, and sought to adjust the difficulties in a spirit o£ reasonable ifoniproaias*, They earnestly trust the Commonwealth agreement of 1905 will not bo ralihod unless clause S3 is uuicnded to read "The agreement remains in force till October 31, 1913, and no longer:" Thus the partners will then be restored to their position precedent ito the New South Wales agreement, "line Board should bo allowed discretion tea negotiate an amicable arrangement with the Eastern Extension Company subject to the approval of the respective Governments, and tho adoption of the amendment nienftoned..

The majority of .the sigaatorics express the hope, toot the Commonwealth will reduce the terminal rate.
