The Borough Works Committee met )it Thursday. Present : His Worship ;he Mayor, Crs. Brooking, Browne, ,'ollis, Clin, Ewing and Tisch. ! The following recommendations will be made to the Council on Monday night That Mr W. Sheffield's request for ,vn entrance to his property in 11ar(rett Road be referred to the engineer to report upon. That the sum of £7 10s be accepted •or full selHmenl of Hie account ol £l3 16s 5d against the Exhibition Committee for laying water mains to the exhibition buildings, and that the balance 'He written off.
Tlvat Mr W'. A. Atkinson be informed that the Council cannot see its | way to accede to his request for work |iji Fillis Street. That the Women's Christian Temperance Union be granted control of, the ladies' room for the ensuing year on the same terms as previously, but that they be informed that after the above period the room will be required by the Counpil. That the borough engineer report on Monday night re trees overhanging Pendarves Street. That Molesworth Street, East t,x> metalled from the present metal to Hobson Street. That the Town Clerk be authorised t.o allow one-half per cent, brokerage on the sale of the £7OOO loan. That the debentures for the £7OOO loan shall bear interest at 4| per cent.
Tint portion of Fulford Street closed road (the western part) be sold toi the adjoining owner, Mr Kyngdon, for the sum of £65. That the Citizens' Life Assurance Company be informed \tlvat the Council regret that it cannot see its way !o alter its debentures to denominations of £IOOO each.
That the Citizens' Life Assurance Company be paid £6 7s, legal expenses for perusing debentures, etc., as arranged.
That the cottages at the. reservoir and the abattoir be insured in the State Fire Office.
That a formal resolution be .passed appointing Mr Gibbon lo control the contracts for the power house and electric light works during tbe ab-s-ence of Mr Mestayer from New Plymouth from lime to time. That the Mayor of Invcrcargill lie informed, in reply to his circular, that the Council has already passed a resolution approving the principles of the Fire Brigades Bill now before l arliament, and sees no reason to alter its opinion, That Mr Pycroft's letter re removal of gum trees in Dowiie Slreel be referred to the Reserves Committee. inat that portion of llu i ciiffineei's report referring to the plaining of the reserve si lobe referred to the Reserves Committee.
