Veterans' Association.
0 ANNUAL MEETING. A fair gathering of the veterans of the district assembled at. the New Plymouth Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Veterans' Association. The Vice-President (Captain Stand' ish) in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, which disclosed a small credit balance, thought the membership of tlte Association could be considerably augmented, and urged meinjoers to induce as many veterans as possible to join. He pointed out the value of the Association as a pleasant means of social re-union for those associated with ■the early days of the district., while it was also a means of obtaining small concessions which they could not secure individually. Hb referred to the. (act that tho Association had 'been instrumental in securing the .veterans free tickets t« the exhibition, whilst, through tho courtesy of Sir Joseph Ward, the request for free railway passes, in order that the veterans living at a distance might attend with but little expense, had been granted. The assemblage of veterans at luncheon on that occasion had been a very enjoyable and successful function. He hoped that in future there would be an annual social reunion to talk over old times, and serve as a pleasant link between the past and the present. It seemed to him tnat Empire Day, with its historical recollections, would he an eminently suitable day. on which to assemble, Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted :—Vice-President, Captain Standish (re-elected) ; delegates to conference, Captains Standish and K. E. Barnerton ■; fton. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Black (re-elected-) ; auditor, Captain Mc-Ktslla-r ; committee, . Captain Mace, Lieutenants Davies and Wells. Messrs W. D. Webster, F. Oliver, Adlum, Cronen and J. J. Kfcnyon. The proposition that an annual gathering be held on Empire Day, May 24, was enthusiastically taken up and unanimously agreed to. It was agreed by, those present' that every effort 'be made to increase the membership, the annual subscription being' os. The secretary undertook lobe in attendance at'the office of Mr W. D.
