Master Mix, a Winter Cup candidate, is reported to be getting through some uselul work. He should earn distinction during the coming meeting. The Haut Briou colt Fontenoy strained 'himself slightly when at the Wellington' Winter Meeting, necessitating his withdrawal from the Winter Cup. Wanganui ' papers state that he is making a rapid recovery. According to a private letter received in Auckland the oilier day, Mahutongais to be shipped to Australia shortly in charge of his old trainer, M. Maker. J. Buchanan, •who steered him to victory in his most important engagements last season, is also making the trip and will ride him.

There is nothing startling to relate as far as the combs National Meeting is concerned. Kbitcre and Romeo are still the favourite combination for the double.
