THE AUSTRALIA!) GAME. A meeting of those interested in promoting the Australian game at New Plymouth was held at lire Town Hall on Friday evening, the convenors bung Messrs K. Boys ami .J. Adams. There was a gathering numbering close on a score of those who had followed the game on the "oilier side" and other aspirants. ■ Mr J. Adams was voted to the chair, It was pointed out that the game was growing in favour in Auckland, Wellington and other centres, and the promoters were oi opinion that there were a sufficient number of players around New Plymouth and suitairbs to form a strong cluh. Once started on a fair basis, those present' were optimistic as to the game "catching on" with a good section oi the public. It was finally decided to form a Club, to 'be' known as the "Victorian Football Club," under the rules of the Victorian Football League. Some twenty names of intending members were at once enrolled. The Mayor (Mr R. Cock) was elected President, and Messrs Jennings, M.H.R., Whittle, Buckleton,' Dockrill, Stagpoole, O'Brien, C. Clarke, Cody, Blythc, Julian and J. Smith Vice-Presidents. Mr J.Adams was appointed Hon. Secretary and Treasurer and Messrs Hobday, Murison, Boys and Simmons the Management Committee. In view ol the lateness of the season the subscription for playing members was fixed at 2s fid, and for honorary members at ss. The club's colours will be white guernsey, black pants and stockings, Mr MeArthur undertook to supply members and intending members with books of rules. It was decided to bold a committee meeting on Wednesday evening'to arrange about a playing ground, etc. the first practice match is to be held this afternoon, and application is to « made for the use of the Recreation Ground. H is probable that an Auckland team will pay a visit shortly to stimulate interest in the game" The remainder of Hie present season will be mainly devoted to scratch matches' but next year rt is hoped (o get club competition going. Taranaki Rngby Union, A meeting, of the above was held at Stratford on Thursday night, when there were present : Messrs Buchanan (Chairman). Jury, Spurdle. Humphries, Scogland (secretary). Stratford protested 'against VV aiuiate being awarddd the Junto: (.hainpionship, 0 n account of Christie having played in the play-off, h, e ' having qualified, as a senior playei previously. It was resolved to uphold the pro test and award the match to Stratiord. Okainwa seniors protested against the match Opunakc v. Okainwa being awarded to Opunake, on the ground that Opunake played two plavers who were not on the books of 'time I.'nion. This match had pseviously been awarded to Opunake on th« ',' round that Okainwa played a memhoi- who was not in the district. It was resolved to award the test in question to Okaiawa, and to di Clare the match void. This now leaves Haw era the winners nf the Southern .Division, and they will play Stratford to decide the premiership. It was decided to play the match at Stratford on Saturday, 12Uo inst. The rnion resolved that no more protests be entertained on matches played to date.

The meeting went into committee, and on resuming resolved that the charges .agajnst Hansen had no foundation, that the charge against do Laii'nay was proved, anil that he be disqualified till the end of the Urst ijpurkl, 1900. The secretary was instructed Ho write to the secretary of.the Eltliam Club with regard to the conduct of spectators, [and that if such conduct happened again the Union would take action.
The secretary was also instructed to write to the Referees' Association of the Southern Division, uski;i\g it to, lie more particular in appointing competent referees. The, New, 'Zealand Union wrote stating that the match between, the Australian] team and a combined team from Wanganui and Taranakj had been fixed to take place at Hawera on Sept. 9, and asking the Taranaki Union to communicate with the Wanganui Union regarding the selection of the team, and to undertake the afra^ng'oments. It was decided to act as requested. The Wanganui match was postponed till Sept. 2M, in consequence ,o! the Australian match.
