A LABOUR DISPUTE.
(Per Press..Association.) DUNEDIN, Aug. I.' The Arbitration Court, was engaged, at Milton to-<iay hearing the dispute of the Agricultural Labourers' Union and the lime-kiln owners of Otago and Southland. The men asked for 18 hours, a half-holiday on Saturday, and wages ranging from 8s to 10® per day. The employers contended there was little or no profit on limeburning, and if wages were inereas- ' cd most of the kilns would have to lie closed. If tiie price of lime weiei increased, the Government would, not carry it free on the railways, as; it was provided that the price must ' not exceed 13s per ton. Further evidence will be taken at Invercargilli and Oamaru.
