(Received July 31, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 31. The Japanese on Friday, ai'tyr much street lighting, captured Luikofl, Saghalien. The Russians fled in disorder eight miles south, where a second conflict resulted in the death ot over 200 Russians, and the capture of five hundred. Five thousand infantry, with twelve guns, defended Luikoff. Japanese have occupied several other towns in Saghalien. THE CLERGY'S PROTEST. AGAINST SHAMEFUL PEACE. RUSSIA MAY RELY ON THE CZAR. (Received July 31, 9.7 p.m.) St. PETERSBURG, July 31. The clergy at Orenburg urged the Czar not to conclude a shameful peace^ The Czar replied: "The Russians can rely on me never to conclude a (shameful peace, or one unworthy of Ijreal Russia."
