THE POLICE COMMISSION.
A SENSATIONAL STATEMENT. (Per Ptess Association.) AUCKLAND, July 29. The Police Commission resumed taking evidence to-day.. During the course of cross-examin-ation of ConstaJble Dartby by Sub-; Inspector Black, in regard to witness' suggestion that men as thoroughly qualified as lie was by solicitors'examination should relieve ill? sub-inspectors of Court work, the subinspector asked whether or not witness considered him (Black) incompetent '! Witness said no, he did not. Sub-inspector Black then made a sensational statement as regards the i relations between himself and InspeeI tor Cullen, saying t/hc latter reported him to be incompetent when he (Black) applied [or a transfer. Inspector Cullen's report, was attached. The whole thing, he believed, was done out of personal antipathy towards him. He asked for a full inquiry, which the Commissioners intimated would probably be given. Evidence was also given by Constables Lee, O'Grady and Cotter, re- j 'garding the statement made by ex-! Constable McDonald about them and j against O'Grady by Miss McDonald at Oamaru. All the statements, witness said were deliberate Ues, merely, made to involve them also.
