As far as his reformation went, the matter had been settled. He knew tte whole system oT laws in the Marshalls had teen altered, and would be put into operation on Oct. 1. These new laws would be in accordance with Australia's wishes, so every thing pointr ed to a satisfactory settlement w tbe difficulty.. STATEMENT BY MR DEAKINI NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS. (Received July 28, 10.49 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July '2B. In the House of Representatives, Mr Htggins called attention to thv French Commission's report, cabled yesterday, recommending an annual grant for the benefit of settlers in the New Hebrides, and asked Mr Deakin (Premier) to see that the Australian Government was consulted before the New Hebrides Land Court was appointed. Mr Deakin replied that he had every reason to believe the course suggested would certainly be followed by the Imperial Government. Ni*rotiations regarding the suggested Laod Court bad been inordinately prolonged, and so far there was nothing to show that any progress ha<t teen made. The proposals of tlic French Commission contained no novel feature, but that which called attention once more to the (act that considerable sums were being expended out of French funds for the benefit oi settlers in the New Hebrides. An arrangement had been imminent from the date of the friendly agreement with lrar.ee.
