Coaling at the Breakwater.

The Wesstport Coal Company made application to the New Plymouth Harbour Hoard on Friday for petmission to erect a hopper on the railway wharf at the port, capable of holding about 200 tons of coal. It was pointed out that an almost certain guarantee bad been receive.! from one shipping company to uso about 151) ions of coal per week it lite hopper were erected, and that the port woulti -derive great benefit from .having such storage bins as it would probably leail to other shipping companies coaling at the poll, representing increased revenue to the Board. The suggestion was also made that the engineer of the Board ami the applicants consult to discuss anil devise plans and position where hoppers could lie erected without interference to other traffic on the wharf.

Mr Gillam, engineer lo the Coal Company, waitu.l on the lioard ami explained that Mr Marchant and lir had selected a site. The matter of conditions would have to be referred to Iris directors.

Hie Hoard passed a resolution approving of ihe application, proviilvd suitable terms and conditions could he arranged.
