LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The debate on tile Legislative Council Reform Bill was continued, and adjourned till 7.30 p.m. The Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. The Hon. Wigram's Legislative Council Reform Bill was killed by 22 votes to 2. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House mei at 2.30 p.m. The Second Ballot Bill and Electoral Bill were read the fust time. Leave to introduce the Sugar and Tobacco Duties Abolition Bill (Wilford) was refused by 40 votes to 2a.
EVENING SITTING. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. The Road Boards Act Amendment Bill passed the final stages. Mr Seddon moved the second reading of the Teachers' Superannuation Bill. He said in a few days he would tmng'down a Bill to increase teachers' salaries, otherwise teachers would not be able to pay the contributions demanded of them. He lurtlier staled "that the Colonial Secretary had a Bill in hand to provide a superannuation scheme for the whole Civil Service. If given the opportunity, the Government would submit a scheme of national pensions. Even, however, if they had such a scheme they would mrairc to have the Old Age Pensions and Civil Service superannuation schemes The increases it was proposed to make in teachers salaries were equal to 65 per cent. The second reading was agreed to on the voices. The House rose at 11.50 p.m.
