New Plymouth Harbour Board

MONTHLY MICETING. The monthly meeting of Ihe New Plymouth Harbour Hoard was held on Friday. Mr J. 13. Comiet (Chairman) presided, and there were also present : Messrs Newton King, McL/ean, Thomson, Price, Ward, Maxwell, H'ine and Hornby.

[ —Nominee Members.— The Marine Department notified the appointment of Messrs R. W. | Hornby, R. Price ami J. Ward as members of the Board. —Currie Street Extension.— The Borough- Council notified its willingness to pay the cost of dedicating the narrow strip required to make the Currie Street extension the full tilift wide, in accordance with- the Board's offer.

—Kitson Light Company.— The Kitson Light Company wrote that they hail been informed that the Board hatl obtained an outfit on Hie Kitson system for the Muturoa lighthouse, and that some diilieulty had been experience*! in starting the lamp. If this was the ease and the Board desired it, they would be glad to arrange to send up their engineer filler to see what was required.—Keeeived.. —Finances.—

Tlhi secretary reported the hank balances to date as follows General 'account, tlr., £4211 5s 8d ; trust account, cr., £3373 Ss 9d. —Drainage into Harbours.—

A circular letter was received from the Tiuiatu Harbour Board, opposing the action of the Timaru Borough Council in draining the sewerage .into the harbour. The matter was left in t'hc hands of t/lie delegates to the Harbours Association oi New Zealand, with- a view .to having it dealt with in a Bill. —Repairs to Gridiron.—

The foreman reported that the piles under the lower end ol the " gridiron" were very much decayed, and the dredge could not with safety be placed upon it until repairs were effected. There was a sullicienl supply, of timber oiv lvawl, awl the probable cost o( labour would be about £2o,—The work was authorised, i —Cement Supplies.— 1 On the recommendation of the Works Committee,' it was decided to [advertise in the local papers for Hit supply of 1000 casks of Knight Bevan cement, and to send circulars on tin matter to outside firms who have liatl dealings with the Board,
