CHEAP HOMES FOR WORKMEN.
MR WATTS' SCHEME ADOPTED
TO 13E TRIED AT SPOTSWOOD. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 18. The new scheme for providing workers' homes, alluded to by the Premier, was suggested by Mr F. W. Watts, of New Plymouth, who is now in Wellington, at the invitation of live Government, to elaborate dcdctails. The Minister regards the proposal very favourably, and intends to put it on trial at the Spotswood suburban block, near New Plymouth, acquired by the Government some time ago. The idea is that a man desirous of acquiring a house should take out an endowment policy for 20 or 25 years and pay yearly an amount sufficient lo cover premium and insurance on the house. At the end ot the lenn the property becomes his own.
The Premier said he thought he could see his way to provide a house under'this scheme worth £350 for XUs a week.
