ARBITRATION ACT AMENDMENT.
(Received July 17, 10.9 p.m.) , , SYDNEY, July 17. A deputation from the Sydney Labour Council urged the Premier to make the preference clause effective in amending the Arbitration Bill. The Premier (Mr Carruthers', in reply, said ihe amending Bill vould be introduced in about a fortnight. Ho believed the measure would commend itself to men who thought dispassionately. He was a strops advocate of arbitration, and Ore Government would try to make the principles of arbitration more acceptable Generally, the Bill would define the subjects which might be faA by the Court, including jlxinu a ' nuniuiuiu wage for all classes of labour, regulating hours, and makin E provision for tie aged, feeble, of <low workers.
