Volunteer Notes.

The headquarters companies of the Taranaki Hide Battalion held their usual monthly insjiectioii on Monday night, Lieut.-Colonel O-kcy in

| commniyd. There were excellent musters. The men were marched to Poverty Plat, and exercised in company drill and outjiost duty. lief ore marching off, I.f.eut.-'Colonel Ok'ey, on behalf of the Taranaki Rifle l.'nion, presented the seniior and junior challenge shields to the Taranaki Rifles.

The champion belt for Private Humphries, of the Hides, diU not rome. to hand. Other presentations were : <!old medal, for senior highest aggregate. Private A. L. Humphries ; gold medal for junior 'highest aggregate, Private C. <!. Okey ; silver medal, second senior aggregate, Private T. Mar-i-ett; all of tf.ib Rifles.

The silver jnedlal for the second junior aggregate was won by PrivateKretschmar, formerly of the Rifles, but now of, the Mkncheister Rifles, anil will be presented at Feilding. Proliciene.v certificates for p.assing the corporal's examinations were presented to C>>r.p|ornls Duller and Roberts, Privates 11. Clarke, Black, J'or scph, Morshead, Krctschmar (Rifles), Corporals (iriiliths, Howell, Morris, and Frost (Cuards). The volunteers were very pleased with the leading article which tierent ly appeared in the Daily News, dealing with the Inglewoo'd volunteer case.
