(Received July 16, 4.26 p.m.) LONDON, July 15. Lord Lansdowne, Secretary lor Foreign Affairs, states that the British Minister at Berlin is inquiring into the conditions lor foreigners being able to obtain domiciles lor trading purposes in the Marshall Islands, ami whether British firms will be able, after Oct. 1, to resume trading without unreasonable restrictions.
The Minister is inquiring into the alkgtd German monopoly in the Carolines.
Lord Lansdowde believes the prohibition of trade in the Carolines is not absolute, and is probably due to unauthorised local action
Referring 10 I.orii Lansdownc's statements, Ore Berlin press is semiofficially informed that Germany has already recognised the nml for retorus in international commercial regulations in the Marshall and Caroline Islands. The Government is likely to revise the Juliut Company's contract, probably taking over the management. Reductions in dutyare contemplated to take effect in October as a remedy for the present of most causes of complaint. The papers add that there is nu need to hurry, since Prince von Bulow is busy with much more importaut matters.
