The Slratt'ord Post : It is understood that an individual who has recently made himself somewhat prominent in labour matters proposes contesting the h'gmoat seat against Mr W. T. Jennings, at the coming election.
The question of the purchase oi the Manawatu Railway has been revived by Mr Field. In reply to a question he put on the subject, the Minister for Railways said that it would depend upon the price asked tor it by its owners. • • • •

In the Legislative Council the Hon. J. Rigg in moving for a return ol the number of assisted immigrants considered that some enquiries should be made with |the,object of ascertaining whether the number of these immigrants might not be economically dangerous.
The Premier intimated to a deputation recently, that the Government proposed .to legislate in (|, r directum of using the electoral rolls for the election of Education Boards dividing the various education district int.i wards. Whether I lie clir.l Wins .would, be annual or trianhial | was not yet decided. Every election would cost £]3,000.
