ITS CONTINUANCE ASKED FOR. (Received J«ly » 2 . 1014 V •">■) MELBOURNE, July 12. A deputation of Queensland members, in asking the Minister of Customs to continue the sugar bounty, declared it was essential for the continuance of the industry. There was plenty of white labour now availaftte, and if it was known} the bounty was to be coutinued this would be utilised in planting. Noueitension of the industry would mean its passing into the hands of the Japanese, Chinese and other aliens. Sir W. Lvne, in reply, said the Government intended to extend the bounty (or a substantial teim, but be was unable to say for how long.
