The divorce laws of the colony came in for considerable criticism on. the second reading'-of Mr Laurcnson's measure. This was also one of the rejected measures of the previous session. The debate indicated pretty clearly that there arc many who believe that lunacy should be made a ground for divorce, after a certain period of detention. A warning note, however, was sounded—that we are growing loo'much like America in ihe facilities given to break the marriage ties, for the sacrtdness of which several memliors stood up in defence. The member for Lyttelion had the satisfaction of seeing the principle contained in his bill affirmed, after it had run the gauntlet ol its committee sifigc, with ccrtain'amendments. Whether it will ever find a place on the statute-took of the colony is another question. The Patea Harljour Hoard appears to lie in in respect to the purchase of a dredge to deepen the river, especially mar the wharf. At a meeting last week tho Board discussed tho advisability of puichVuiing a dredge from the Wanganui Harbour Board. Too drvdgc is to lie inspected und the matter brought up again at tap iu>xt meeting.
