The appointment of Major Malone. as a trustee of the New Plymouth Volunteer Drill-shed reserve is gazetted. Mr Henry Hirst, one ol Auckland's j pioneers died yesterday morning. His only daughter, Mrs Nixon (wile of Rev. John Nixon) left for Auck- ' land in the evening, accompanied hy her son Harry. j I Mr G. Hoghcn, Inspector-General o[ ': Schools, who is expected on an offic- j ial visit to New Plymouth shortly, ! will have several educational mat- ' ter.s brought before him for adjust- \ men'. I Mr M. Smith, local manager of the I Bank of Australasia, left yesterday to take charge of the Wanganui branch. On Monday the local staff I presented him with a case of pipes as la token of their esteem and goodI'.vill, and later on a number of mem- ■ | bets of the Taranaki Club met together at the Club House to bid him [i.ood-bye.
