LARGE NUMUEBS OF UNEMPLOYED. (Received July 3, 1 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 3. The Public Service Hoard has issued a report in connection vrith the inquiry iuto the working of the State Labour Iluroau. It shows Uiht labour in Now South Wales, is generally in a state of demoralisation, for the men have been so propped up and assisted that doubt is expressed as W 'wncthpr tho country will evei get back to the labour conditions when an employer knew that howould get a fair day's work tor a fair day's wage. Stone-breaking' ns relief work) proved very expensive. The expenditure on the bureau was nearly £'6T7,000, o|n|d thejloss amounted to £26,000. Steamer and railway tickets involved £89,000, and refunds amounted to £31,000, the balance being irrecoverable. Tho concensus of opinion is tha't there is 'a large number of unemployed at pnesenb in the State, »nd winter is likely to see Cpnsidcj-ablu distress. The Hoard recommends the abolition of thp Trades Hall branch of the bureau, and that the central bureau be controlled by one Commissioner. One witness stated that so .un satisfactory had the labour supplied by the bureau proved that the central railway station cost twelve to fifteen per cent, more than should have been the case.
