How a Book was Pushed.

In America Mr T. W. Ilawson is attracting much attentioH by his exposures of "Frenzied Finance, "which have sent a periodical called "Everybody'r -Magazine" into a circulation of a million. The financial editor of the New York Commercial has written an account,of Mr .Lawson's career, which sooins to have been varied and adventurous, in the highest degree. At one tone he had a; publishing house known j as tho Company. The company published a book entitled " Why Priests should Wed," written by the Rev, Dr. Fulton. At first it seemed as if the volume would fall still-born from the press, but Mr Lawson was at the moment acting as the excutivc head of the publicity department of the KanidAvery Publishing Company, and his methods of advertising yere thorough ind original. , After filling a large corner store window in a prominent Boston street with copies 6t the oook, Lawson engaged one of his supernumeraries, disguised for the mo oient in a Mack coat and irreproachlble linen, to stand in the roadway and denounce the work, as inimical to morals and religion-. At tho close' of his harangue, when tSie inevitable crowd had'eeUected, ihis 1 orator produced a brick from his coat-tail ;)ockot, and solemnly hurled it through the plate-glass window. H» was, of course, arrested, pleaded guilty when arraigned, and paid the fine with the resignation of a martyr. Next day the papers, a» Lawson had shrewdly cohjectured.dcvoted a column apieco to the incident, and the hook was selling like wildfire. The discussion went on., in the newspapers. WHen sales began to flag a corps: of street .idlers, properly drilled to impersonate fervent religionists, were engaged' to follow the author's carriage about town, and sometimes'to throw stones at it. This became disagreeable to Drv Fulton and. had to ibe put a stop to. Then came the collapse of the company, realising three cents on a dollar for their, claims.—British Weekly.
