Obituary.
MR JOHN WILKIE,
It is with regret wo chronicle tho death of un old colonist, Mr John Wilkic, who was well known, throughout the district. The deceused, who was horn at Perth, Scotland, in June, 1835, arrived in Wellington ia : 18*1. Ha settled at the Hutt until 1860, when he removed to tho Wairarapa, taking up his residence at line Grove, Greytown. In his colonial experience's ho endured the usual hardships and vicissitudes common to, tho lot of the early settlers, by whom he was hold in the highest, respect. Owing to the »l-heulth of his wile, Mr Wilkie removed to New Plymouth some ten years ago, and in! hio advanced years retired on a, competency. He suffered a severe loss by tho death of his wife about oight; months ago, a nd his health gradually failed. His death occurred at his residence, Vogeltown, on Wodncsday, at the age of 70. The deceased gentleman was of a quiet unassuming uisposationi, and his kindly nature g«atly endeared him to. a very largo circle of friends, During his long residence at Greytown he was a prominent member of the Wesleyan Uiurch.
