He characterised the white ocean and contract clauses of the Postal and Navigation Acts as biota on the Statute Book, and extremes of absurd and ridiculous nonsense. He recognised tie national importance of the sugar industry, and the serious responsibility involved in the I deportation of Kanakas. He said the question of the sugar bonus and .deportation would. be dealt with by the Federal Treasurer when he delivered his budget next month.
