Stone, meat inspector for .the town, has received intimation j.roni the Department ot his transfer lo Wellington. The name of his successor is not yet known locally. Captain Hiiin, well-known in the j shipping community at Newcastle, lied at Lake Miuwmariu on tho l!>th msl. Deceased, who was 7l> vears of i'fgc, arrived in Australia from Scot-,-un;l about forty years ago, und sail' ;ed m the New 7*nlund trade. In 1878 he joined the pilot service at | Newcastle, an d afterwards held the position or assistant harbourmaster, ring in 1894. He subsomiently been mi! a member ol the Newcastle* Marine Hoard.
Mr Alec Hill, whoso several published songs have made him well known to lovers of music, purposes leaving Wellington very shortly, to lake up his residence in New Plymouth. He will be much missed In club and athletic circles, here, ' more particularly football-Mr Hill being president of the Oriental Foolball Club,* besides having been a member of the management committee n f the Wellington Kugby .1 nion for five consecutive 'years'. He is at present vice-president of the Wellington Kennel Club, and representative of -(he Wairarapa association on the New Zealand Kennel Club. Wellington's loss will be New Plymouth's gain, for Mr Hill will doubtless continue his active interest in these matters when he settles in Taranuki.
